The “Why”

The short answer?

One book. Seventh grade. And my sunshines, who got me through dark nights, but were also the catalysts to my darkest nights.

The long answer?

I always knew I wanted to work with children and families, I decided I wanted to be a Social Worker when I was in the 7th grade and nothing could change my mind. This is where my journey began, but the real journey that led me here did not begin until I became pregnant with my first sunshine. Miles away from my California home, family, and friends, completely unprepared, I became a Mother and my partner became a Father. I also became familiar with postpartum anxiety and rage. How could someone with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, not recognize her struggles?

How could my sunshine, the one that made me so happy, also make me feel like this? How could I tell anyone else that my sunshine was not always so sunny, when the expectation was to be in bliss? These questions and my own struggles with postpartum anxiety fueled my passion to support others through their perinatal and postpartum periods.

  • Because two things can be true at once

  • Because we can love our babies and also hate the changes motherhood has brought to our bodies, minds, and lives

  • Because we can be happy to have our new baby and angry, depressed, or anxious

  • Because having a baby is like somebody handing you a pile of anxious thoughts and worries to add to your own

  • Because none of this means you love your baby any less

  • Because none of this makes you a bad mother

  • Because we DESERVE support and to be heard, judgement free
